Although the new semester at UP has only started today, our international exchange students already have their first week of intensive preparations behind them thanks to the Orientation Week organized by the Office for Mobility RUP.
Last week, more than 130 international students, who will spend the next four months at our university, came to chilly Olomouc for the Orientation Week. On Monday 6 February, we started by presenting not only Palacký University and its facilities, but also our UNESCO city and the Czech Republic as a culturally and historically rich country. The programme included presentations from Akademik Sport Centre, Welcome Office UP, ESN UP Olomouc, Sustainable University, Accommodation Office and also Dr. David Livingston from the Department of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Arts.
The programme on Tuesday and Wednesday was thematically milder, but still rich in content. During these two days, students who came to Palacký University from four different continents had the opportunity to learn the basics of the Czech language and were given many practical information related not only to their studies at UP, but also to their off-campus life.
Like every semester, student volunteers from ESN UP Olomouc were a great help to us, especially on Thursday, when they showed their new "classmates" around the university facilities and other practical places in Olomouc. Thanks to them, our international students will now be able to easily borrow the necessary books from the university library and eat their pre-exam stress from classes in one of the university canteens.
On the last day of the Orientation Week, we prepared from the Police of the Czech Republic, which contained practical information regarding the laws or their rights and obligations in our country. And since every student knows that repetition is the mother all learning, we devoted the last point of the programme to summarizing the most important information the students could hear during the Orientation Week in a short presentation.
We thank all lecturers and helpers for another successful Orientation Week and we wish all students as many pleasant and enriching experiences and newly established friendships as possible.
